1st Quarter Activities

Here is a list of activities we did during the 1st Quarter of school.

September:

All kids K-2nd worked on practicing the art of personal space. This is so very important when coming to the gym because of the kind of movements and games that we do here! If we don't know how to keep to ourselves, we could hurt others, so we really work on playing games that help us to understand the space around us. Some of the games we played were Sharks and Minnows, Jewel Thieves, Far Away, Line Tag, Robot Masters and Forest Tag. After working on our space we began working on our eye-foot coordinating activities...also known as kicking, punting and dribbling. We play lots of different games to better use our feet in relationship to these skills.

3rd Grade at Rose Park also began the year playing games and learning how to better use our space and respect the space of those around us. They began soccer skills like the younger grades, but spent more time using those skills to build up to play a soccer game at the end of the unit.

October:

Most of this month was spent on the previous skills of soccer skills, but we also moved into a very fun and exciting activity that I have enjoyed teaching for the past few years on the sound side of Holland, BOWLING! The Rose Park kids have never done this before so it was very new, but they caught on quickly and we had a great time! The equipment includes carpeted lanes, pins, lightweight indoor bowling balls (made of a rubber material), and it's all FREE! Century Lanes Bowling Center on 16th St. in Holland have purchased many of these lanes and donate them to the local schools to use in their PE classes. I came across this wonderful program 4 years ago, and have really enjoyed teaching it to our kids! The kids learn how to hold the ball, learn and practice a 4 step approach, and then play many fun and exciting bowling games. We had a great time!

The first quarter just flew by, but we had a lot of fun, especially because it's the first couple months of school and getting back into the routine and seeing old friends and new is very exciting. I consider it a joy to work with your child in learning how to glorify God with their body! Thank you for allowing me to do this every week!
